FIA Region II (Asia Pacific) launches phase one of its prevention-focused crash investigation pilot

05.03.26

From 5-6 February 2026, FIA Region II (Asia Pacific) delivered a regional online training programme to launch phase one of the 5i Framework for Post-Crash Investigation pilot in Asia-Pacific.

The two-day programme brought together Region II (Asia Pacific) Mobility Clubs, road safety practitioners, researchers, and global experts to strengthen prevention-focused crash investigation aligned with the Safe System approach.

Throughout the programme, participants explored how the 5i Framework for Prevention-Focused Crash Investigation, supported by the FIA Safe and Sustainable Mobility Grants Programme and the FIA Foundation, prioritises Independent, Immediate, Impartial, In-depth, and Injury Prevention investigations.

Unlike conventional methods that often stop at identifying fault, the 5i Framework emphasises learning from crashes and identifying systemic risks to prevent future incidents.

Expert contributions included representatives from the National Transportation Safety Board, the International Road Assessment Programme, and the World Health Organization.

The programme also introduced a Virtual Mentoring System to support participating countries during the upcoming pilot phase, reinforcing regional collaboration and evidence-based road safety reform.
