AIP Foundation launches photo contest to promote road safety

26.05.20

With the support of the FIA, AIP Foundation launched a photo contest in Vietnam to raise awareness about speed reduction at school zones. The contest, held on Facebook, reached millions.

Vietnam currently lacks laws or regulations that require drivers to slow down near schools, where students are particularly vulnerable on their commutes as pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcycle passengers.

According to the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation’s report in 2017, 2,150 children under the age of 19 died from traffic accidents every year.

To address this, the AIP Foundation, with the support of the FIA, launched a nationwide photo contest in Vietnam to raise awareness about speed reduction at school zones.

The photo contest, called "Giữ gìn khoảnh khắc hạnh phúc trẻ thơ" ("save the happy moment of your children"), was held from September 2019 to January 2020 on a Facebook page called Truong Hoc An Toan Vietnam

Applicants submitted photos of their children’s happiest moments to call and convince road users in general to slow down and ride at or below 30km/h in school areas.

After four months, the campaign reached more than 6 million people and received 1,992 photo submissions, raising parent and community members' awareness of the importance of child safety on the road and of preserving their child's happiest moments.

The photo exhibition will be displayed at the closing event of Slow Zone Safe Zone project scheduled on June 27, 2020 which aims to continue raising awareness of participants about child safety in school zones through slowing down speed when passing school zones.
