Nepal Automobiles’ Association Leads Policy Dialogue on Safer and Better Mobility

FIA Member Club the Nepal Automobiles’ Association (NASA) successfully hosted the Policy Dialogue on Automobile and Better Mobility 2025 on 2–3 August in Kathmandu. The event gathered 93 national and international experts to address mobility and road safety challenges and explore opportunities for sustainable transport in Nepal.

Opening the dialogue, Nepal’s Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, praised NASA’s leadership in fostering collaboration among key stakeholders and advancing the country’s mobility agenda. He confirmed that the Road Safety Act is nearing completion and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to placing road safety at the forefront of national policy.

The event featured prominent voices from across the region, including Greig Craft, FIA Region II President, Founding President of AA Vietnam and Founder of the AIP Foundation; Sushil Babu Dhakal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Chairperson of the Asia Pacific Road Safety Observatory; Ranjit Kaur Virk, Secretary General of the Federation of Indian Automobile Associations and the Western India Automobile Association; and Dr. K.C. Vohra, Director of the School of Automotive at NAMTECH India.

Expert sessions addressed critical issues such as two-wheeler safety, helmet use, ride-sharing, sustainable tourism, electric mobility, road classification, and emerging transport technologies. Political leaders from both national and provincial assemblies pledged their support to advancing safer and more sustainable mobility initiatives.

During the event, NASA Nepal announced the creation of a Motoring Academy and the launch of Evision Nepal, initiatives designed to strengthen road safety awareness and training nationwide. The National Road Safety Award was presented to traffic campaigner Shekhar Chandra Rai for his outstanding contributions to the sector.

FIA World Council Member Govinda Bhattarai emphasised that outcomes from the dialogue will be presented at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Road Safety Conference in Manila, highlighting Nepal’s growing role in the regional mobility agenda.

By hosting this dialogue, NASA has reaffirmed its commitment to road safety, sustainability, and higher professional standards, positioning Nepal’s automobile sector as a key driver of social, economic, and policy development.
