Testing Vehicles for Safety: Ensure Roadworthiness to Save Lives [AAC, Sri Lanka]
08.03.26

Fewer than 15% of Sri Lanka’s 8.1 million vehicles, mainly lorries and buses, undergo mandatory roadworthiness tests, despite high accident rates among motorcycles and three-wheelers and an ageing vehicle fleet. With weak reporting and limited inspections, risks to road users are severe. AA Ceylon, backed by key safety stakeholders, led a national advocacy campaign that has prompted action to amend the Motor Traffic Act to mandate testing for all vehicles.
