In the final track session before the start of the 24 Heures du Mans at 3pm today the three Audi R18s posted the fastest times in the 45-minute warm up session.

The final two qualifying sessions ahead of the start of the 2015 Le Mans 24 Hours on Saturday at 15h00 produced some improvements in the times but ultimately the provisional pole position times set in Q1 yesterday were the ones that counted towards the top spots on the grid. The weather even played its part today as the rain that was forecast failed to arrive.

The red no17 Porsche set the quickest lap time in the opening four hour session of the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans when Mark Webber set a 3m21.362 lap around the 14km circuit.

The Le Mans 24 Hours is the pivotal race on the World Endurance Championship calendar in more ways than one.

Following a rain hit second 4-hour session at the official test day in La Sarthe, Porsche heads into the 2015 24 Heures du Mans with the fastest cars. The red, no17 Porsche 919 hybrid topped the time sheets this afternoon, leading a 1-2 for the German marque.

On Sunday 31 May the 56 entries taking part in the 83rd edition of the 24 Heures du Mans will gather in La Sarthe for the official pre event test, with the 34 World Endurance Championship full season entries forming over 50% of the eligible cars. They will be joined by some of the reserve entries and two LMP3 Ginetta-Nissans from the European Le Mans Series, making a total of 64 cars on track on the 31 May.

In 2014, endurance racing adopted radical new LMP1 technical regulations that limited fuel consumption so that no competitor could gain a performance advantage by consuming more fuel than any other. The result has been a reduction in fuel consumption of around 25-30% for the same performance. So far in 2015 lap times have lowered significantly, with new lap records set at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, and the expectation is that new records will be set at the 24 Heures du Mans on the 13/14 June.
