Since last year, the FIA Karting has made a specific classification for Drivers up to the age of 16, participating in the FIA Karting World Championship and the FIA Karting European Championship for the first time in the OK category, in order to highlight the emergence of young talents at the highest level of racing. Of some thirty Drivers meeting these criteria, it was Briton Harry Thompson who scored the most points and has been named Rookie of the Year for 2018.

Each year, to help stimulate grassroots motor sport, the FIA Sport Funding Commission awards karting slalom kits to four National Sporting Authorities (ASNs) - one each from the MENA, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia Pacific and Americas regions.

In its third year, the FIA Karting Endurance Champion title was won by a factory team, that of the French manufacturer Sodikart, while the official CRG SpA team was once again on the podium. At Le Mans, the 33rd edition of the 24 Hours Karting also confirmed the internationalisation of this Competition at the same time as it affirmed the potential and the attraction of OK engines.

FIA Karting President Felipe Massa wanted to be in attendance in Sweden for the last big sporting event of the 2018 season, the FIA Karting World Championship - OK and Junior held in Kristianstad from 20th to 23rd September. With his great appreciation of competition, he enjoyed the extremely high standard of racing and was pleased with the increase in the number of participants.

This year, 13 GP1 karts will compete on the 1384m Le Mans Karting International Circuit as part of the FIA Karting Endurance Championship. Lightweight and powerful, these machines, powered by the latest generation OK engines, have also demonstrated their excellent reliability in the previous two editions.
