Stubbe, Mandel and Karai European Champions!

Last weekend, Saint-Igny de Vers in France was the stage for the final of the FIA European Autocross Championship, which saw German drivers Stubbe (SuperBuggy) and Mandel (Buggy1600) and Hungarian Karai (TouringAutocross) crowned champions.

The team of Saint-Igny-de-Vers lived up to its reputation: already proclaimed “best event” of the European Championship in 2011, 2012 and 2013, the French event once again stood out thanks to the quality of its organisation.

On the track, the highlight of the day, to the public’s delight, was a triple win by French drivers in the Final of the Buggy1600 category, with Johnny Feuillade coming in first before Laurent Tafany and Jérôme Mahklouf. This home victory was nevertheless not enough to put Feuillade on the final Championship podium, which he missed by just one point, unable to knock German driver Michael Buddelmeyer off his spot. Although he did not reach the final phase in France, German René Mandel showed exemplary regularity on the other eight Championship events, earning him the European Championship title against Kevin Peters from Luxembourg.

In the flagship category, German Bernd Stubbe once again gave the best performance over the season, with four victories out of nine competitions, which also makes him the only driver to have secured more than one win during the season. The other five victories were shared between André Hinnenkamp, young driver Jakub Kubicek, Wiely Albers, Terry Callaghan and Petr Turek, victorious at St Igny. Stubbe thus claims his fifth European Championship title and like in 2013, he was followed by compatriot André Hinnenkamp and Czech Ladislav Hanak.

Hungarian driver Tamas Karai (Skoda Fabia) succeeded himself in the TouringAutocross category, and in the final classification, he preceded Czech Vaclav Fejfar (Skoda Fabia), winner at St Igny. Soon to elevated to a Championship in 2015, the FIA Cup for JuniorBuggy saw the victory of Czech Filip Smid over his compatriot Vaclav Triska.
