Lux Vide Becomes First Audiovisual Production Company to Earn FIA Road Safety Index 3-Star Rating With Support From ACI

05.09.25

- The FIA Road Safety Index helps companies assess their road safety footprint, track progress, and make improvements.

- Lux Vide has been supported by FIA Member, the Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI) in their achievement of this 3-star rating.

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has awarded Lux Vide – one of Italy’s leading audiovisual production companies – a 3-star rating under the FIA Road Safety Index.

Work-related crashes are a major health and occupational risk. Through the FIA Road Safety Index, the FIA is helping companies save lives at scale by assessing their road safety footprint, implementing targeted improvements, and tracking measurable progress across operations and supply chains.

Achieving a 3-star rating reflects a company’s strong commitment to reducing crashes, fostering safe behaviour, and driving lasting positive change.

Lux Vide is the first audiovisual production company in the world to receive this recognition, underscoring its strong commitment to road safety. This milestone was also made possible with the support and guidance of FIA Member, the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI). As part of the collaboration, ACI provided Lux Vide staff with safe driving courses at the ACI-SARA Driving School, helping to embed practical road safety skills across the organisation.

The announcement took place in Monza ahead of the F1 Grand Prix, at a joint FIA-ACI event attended by regional representatives and private-sector leaders in mobility and workplace safety. The discussions highlighted how the FIA Road Safety Index supports safer mobility policies and encourages corporate commitment. Lux Vide’s recognition demonstrates how companies across all sectors can take a leading role in road safety, driving social and economic benefits.

FIA Secretary General for Automobile Mobility and Sustainability, Willem Groenewald, commented on the rating: "It is inspiring to see how Lux Vide has implemented strong policies to protect everyone involved in its audiovisual productions. It sets a clear example, showing that every sector can commit to road safety by measuring the footprint of their transport activities, promoting safe behaviour at the wheel, and ensuring high-quality safety standards both from contractors and across operations."

Special Commissioner of ACI, Gen. Tullio Del Sette, said: "Last year, more than 3,000 people lost their lives on Italian roads, and over 230,000 were injured. This represents an incalculable moral cost, as well as a social cost of nearly €18 billion, or 1% of Italy's GDP. It is clear that any tool that contributes to safer mobility is essential.  For this reason, the ACI intends to work diligently on projects such as the FIA Road Safety Index, which can play a fundamental role in the fight against road crashes, make it easier to reach the EU 2030 targets, and, in the long term, bring us as close as possible to the 2050 'Vision Zero' goal."

COO and interim CEO of Fremantle Italy Group, Valerio Fiorespino, commented: “As part of the Fremantle family, Lux Vide is a leading audiovisual production company in Italy and Europe. In our line of work, our vehicles are constantly on the move, often under pressure, day and night. In this context, the safety of our talents and troupes – and everyone sharing the road with them – has always been one of our top priorities”.

Head of Production at Lux Vide, Corrado Trionfera, added: “Being the first Production Company to receive this award is not only an honor, but also a responsibility: we hope this recognition helps bring more visibility to a crucial issue, inspiring other companies in the industry to follow the path of road safety.”

About the FIA Road Safety Index

Context

  • Launched in November 2022, with the support of the FIA Foundation, the FIA Road Safety Index was a direct response to the Stockholm Declaration of 2020 – a global commitment adopted at the 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety.

  • The Declaration called upon “businesses and industries of all sizes and sectors to contribute to the attainment of the road safety related SDGs by applying safe system principles to their entire value chain including internal practices throughout their procurement, production and distribution process, and to include reporting of safety performance in their sustainability reports.”

  • This call to action was reinforced by the June 2024 UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/78/290 on “Improving Global Road Safety” and the Marrakech Declaration – adopted in February 2025, at the end of the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety that encourages “businesses and industries to monitor and report on the road safety impact of operations throughout their value chain using appropriate reporting systems.“

  • The FIA Road Safety Index is currently the only available methodology enabling organisations to measure and report on their road safety footprint.

Methodology

  • The FIA Road Safety Index aims to increase companies and organisations’ insights on the impact of their operations on road safety and to help them report on their ambitions, actions, and results.

  • With the Index, organisations and companies can measure their road safety footprint —offering a clear, data-driven metric for tracking progress and setting measurable goals.

  • The road safety footprint refers to the number of fatalities and seriously injured persons as a result of road crashes occurring within an organisation’s entire value chain. All casualties resulting from relevant and significant activities, services and products should be included in the calculation.

  • The FIA Road Safety Index evaluates an organisation’s performance using a star rating system.

  • The system includes two ratings: a supply chain rating and a product/service rating. The product/service rating applies only to organisations that deal with road safety-relevant products and/or services.

  • Currently, the highest rating is three stars, based on assessments in two areas: Commitment and Footprint.

  • To achieve three stars, organisations and companies must demonstrate solid performance and strong commitment to safety across all assessed areas.

  • The Index will expand to a 5-star rating starting in 2026 and the assessments will cover five areas: Commitment, Footprint, Planning, Monitoring of Safety Performance, and Safety Culture Management & Supply Chain Coverage.

  • The full methodology, including the Manuals covering the upcoming 5-star rating, is publicly available here.

Benefits

  • For all businesses or organisations that rely on transportation – whether through corporate fleets, municipal fleets, logistics networks, or employee mobility – road safety is essential for operational efficiency, cost reduction, staff well-being, corporate responsibility and public accountability.

  • The FIA Road Safety Index helps companies and organisations to:

  • strengthen safety within public service operations and across value and supply chains, including delivery operations, track performance, reduce crash-related costs, maintain high safety standards, and lead by example.

  • showcase leadership in safety innovation, particularly for companies developing road safetyrelevant products and services such as tech companies, vehicle manufacturers and other mobility operators.

  • demonstrate strong safety records through an internationally recognised rating, influence regulatory discussions and build trust with citizens, users, and policymakers.

  • Independently measure the impact of safety measures – from driver training and crash detection to in-app features and emergency response – helping both public services and tech-driven organisations refine their solutions.

Data on work-related road safety

  • Around 1.19 million people lose their lives on the road each year.

  • The Academic Expert Group for the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety estimates that one-third of these fatalities – around 400,000 annually – occur in crashes involving individuals driving at or for work.

About the Academic Expert Group for the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety

The Academic Expert Group for the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety was convened by the Swedish Transport Administration to propose recommendations to accelerate progress and make a tangible contribution to achieving the target of a 50% reduction in global road fatalities and injuries by 2030.
