The FIA supports 2018 World Sight Day
For World Sight Day (WSD) 2017, the FIA welcomed Michael Fassbender as its new #3500LIVES Global Road Safety Campaign Ambassador. Advocating for improved vision, Fassbender represents the “Check your Vision” Golden Rule for Road Safety. This year, the Federation renews its support for this international day of awareness — held annually on the second Thursday of October — to focus attention on the global issue of avoidable blindness and vision impairment.
Poor vision is a major public health issue. The call for action of WSD this year — “Eyecare Everywhere” — aims to increase public awareness and improve access to quality eyeglasses, which remains limited in many regions of the world.
Vision is critical to the decisions road users make on the road, and today, 1 in 5 drivers still cannot see the road clearly due to uncorrected vision, putting themselves and others at risk. The FIA and its 246 Member Clubs encourage all road users to check their vision regularly and wear appropriate glasses on the road.
