04.12.25

The FIA Region II Ideas Forum and Business Planning Session, hosted in Tokyo from 12-13 November by the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF), provided Club leaders with the opportunities to reflect on regional activities of the previous four years and identify priorities for future growth and impact.

The forum welcomed FIA Secretary General for Mobility & Sustainability, Willem Groenewald, FIA President of the Senate, Carmelo Sanz de Barros, alongside JAF President, Masayoshi Sakaguchi, Region II President, Augustus ‘Joe’ Ferreria and executives from 11 Region II Clubs.

During the workshops facilitated by business consultant Chris Nightingale, regional executives identified four key priorities for Region II’s roadmap over the next four years:

  • Tourism: Focusing on establishing reciprocity agreements and developing cross-border commercial activities to enhance Member benefits.
  • OEM Programme: Expanding the programme’s scope to include additional Clubs and exploring new commercial opportunities.
  • International Driving Permits (IDPs): Collaboration and knowledge sharing on marketing initiatives, while combating fraudulent companies selling fake permits.
  • Road Safety: Leveraging the Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life programme, while continuing advocacy efforts to improve safety standards for mobility users across the region.

FIA Region II will now structure leadership groups to manage these priorities effectively and measure key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress over the next four years.

In addition to the strategic planning, AA Philippines (AAP) executives Pol David Infante, Ryan Monge, and Camille Fallorina introduced a new ‘Learning Management System’ portal. This tool will enable Clubs across Region II to access resources that will help deliver on the key priorities and foster greater collaboration.  AI will play a big part in this collaboration tool for the Region including content creation, translation and individual learning modules.

FIA Region II President Augustus ‘Joe’ Ferreria commented, “I am dedicated to advancing the Region. Together with the AAP team, we will focus on improving communication, expanding membership, and collaborating with the FIA to identify commercially sustainable programmes for our Clubs.”

The Forum concluded with a visit to the Tokyo Traffic Control Centre and JAF’s Emergency Road-Side Assistance Tokyo Branch, further enhancing the learning experience.
