The countdown to a landmark 72nd Macau Grand Prix begins today with the announcement that the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has opened the entry process for the two single-seater World Cups set to light up the legendary Guia Circuit from 13-16 November 2025.

For the first time in the history of one of motor sport’s most prestigious events, Formula 4 cars will battle it out on the streets of Macau in a new World Cup competition to sit alongside the FIA Formula Regional World Cup, which returns for a second year, and the eighth edition of the FIA GT World Cup. The event will also feature the final round of the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour.

The new F4 World Cup will give the best drivers from the entry level of the FIA’s pathway to the top levels of motor sport a chance to compete for a major international single-seater trophy for the first time. Technical and operational support for the event will be provided by Mintimes, organiser of the Chinese F4 Championship, in association the Fédération Française du Sport Automobile (FFSA), and as such places on the grid for the historic first Cup competition will be awarded by invitation.

The FIA will carry out a pre-selection of top drivers from national F4 Championships based on their racing performance. In addition, any driver wishing to participate in the FIA F4 World Cup is encouraged to contact the FIA directly and provide details of their racing record for consideration.

Pre-selected drivers will be invited to complete the official registration before the closing date of 12:00 CET on 30 July.

A final selection of 20 drivers will be confirmed by the FIA through an official letter of invitation, taking into account the drivers’ current classification in their respective championships.

For the FIA FR World Cup, entries will also remain open until 30 July, with the grid being able to accommodate a maximum of 27 Tatuus Formula Regional chassis equipped with Autotecnica-built Alfa Romeo engines. Once again entries will be by invitation with priority given to those drivers having achieved the highest positions in the five 2025 Formula Regional Championships.

Entries for the eighth edition of the FIA GT World Cup, which this year is set to debut a new Super Pole qualifying format, have been open since May 12. Pre-registrations will be accepted until 12:00 CET on July 21 via a dedicated registration platform, with a maximum of 23 grid slots available.

Emanuele Pirro, President of the FIA Single-Seater Committee, said: “The road to a remarkable edition of one of motor sport’s most prestigious events starts here, with the opening of entries for what will be a truly spectacular 72nd Macau Grand Prix. In recent years the FIA and the Macau Grand Prix Organising Committee and Automobile General Association Macao-China (AAMC) have built on Macau’s incredible heritage by making the event the home of our single-seater World Cups. And with the entry lists now taking shape in Formula Region, GT and for the first time in Formula 4, the Macau Grand Prix’s status as the world’s greatest showcase of junior racing talent is further enhanced.”
