The “SmartRoad” application, developed by the Auto Moto Touring Club of Belarus (BKA) Auto Moto with funding from the FIA Road Safety Grant Programme, has achieved the goal of getting children interested in road safety. This initiative was launched by the Club in the framework of the third UN Global Road Safety Week, which focused on the #SaveKidsLives campaign.

By navigating through the application, answering its quizzes and reading its helpful tips, children have the opportunity to learn and understand interactively. This successful project focuses on the key area of safer walking and cycling to school. It addresses the problem of vulnerable road users and aims to have children use their mobile phones to learn to protect and save their lives.

The application is targeted towards children from 8 years old, at the age when they start to walk to school on their own, unaccompanied by their parents and thus needing a clearer knowledge of traffic rules to avoid putting themselves unknowingly in dangerous situations.

Created with the support of the traffic police in Minsk this ingenious application was very well received by Belarus parents and children who could download it for free on the BKA and Traffic Road Police websites, Google Play and the Appstore.

“SmartRoad” provides general rules of conduct and safety principles for various situations (when riding a bicycle, when travelling in a car as a passenger and as a pedestrian), in a relevant and innovative way.

The mobile application also constitutes a reliable source of information on road safety thanks to regular news and legislation updates from the Road Traffic police of Belarus.
