Brazilian driver Augusto Farfus Jnr will defend his FIA GT World Cup crown in Macau next month (14-17 November) after the BMW star’s plans were recently finalized.

Farfus Jnr will be aiming to repeat the win that he took with BMW Team Schnitzer last year, which also proved to be the last race event for the Bavarian marque’s legendary Team Principal Charly Lamm.

“It’s great (to be defending our title),” said Farfus. “This is the biggest GT sprint race in the world, at one of the best tracks in the world. It’s a real privilege for me.

“Last year was very special for many reasons, but especially because it was the last victory for Charly. Sharing the podium with my dear friend Charly is my best memory there, and it will live in my heart forever.

“The victory happened in a very special and emotional way. We worked really hard for that trophy, so we are looking forward to trying to win it again.”

Farfus Jnr is no stranger to the famous 6.2km Guia Circuit, having won there previously in the FIA World Touring Car Championship before adding FIA GT World Cup success to his portfolio in 2018.

The 36-year-old has also been competing in FIA WTCR for Hyundai in 2019, but the multiple race-winner will give up his touring car seat in Macau this year as he focuses solely on the FIA GT World Cup.

“Unfortunately I won’t be on double driving duty due to the specific rules for the Macau GP,” he confirmed.

“So yes, I will be only driving the BMW in the GT World Cup this year but I am looking forward to it immensely.”

“Both touring cars and GTs are difficult to drive at a circuit as challenging as Macau. There is not a single car that you can drive fast there without full commitment.

“I have actually won with all the cars I have driven at Macau! I have not yet driven an F3 car there yet though, so maybe that would be amazing to try one day!”

The FIA GT World Cup and FIA F3 World Cup will take place as part of the 66^th running of the Macau Grand Prix over the weekend of 14-17 November.
