As part of National Road Safety Week, the Automóvil Club del Uruguay (ACU), together with UPM and the Municipality of Paso de los Toros, has launched a major awareness campaign aimed at improving visibility of cyclists and motorcyclists on the roads.

Under the slogan "Make yourself visible. Think, your life matters" the Club activated numerous initiatives aimed at strengthening safety on the streets of the town and providing tools for the prevention of accidents.

The campaign originated from the results of the Social and Environmental Impact Study carried out in the city by UPM, which analysed the attitudes of motorbike and bicycle drivers.

The research allowed the development of strategies and actions to raise awareness, which were then incorporated in the ACU campaign.

One of the most visible was to dress the emblematic sculpture of the bull that represents the Uruguayan city, with a reflective waistcoat. The intention was to promote the use of reflective clothing in transit.

For this reason, cyclists and motorcyclists were also informed about the fundamental role that these elements play in prevention.

The campaign was launched in the square with the bull sculpture, in the presence of local authorities such as Mayor Juan José López Sánchez, ACU Institutional Relations Manager Rosina Rubio, and UPM representative María José Cuevas.

Other noteworthy actions were the coordination, with the Liceo 1 and the local UTU, of different awareness workshops for young people for a safe use of public roads; and the willingness of traffic inspectors to emphasize the correct implementation of equipment that allow motorbike and bicycle users to be seen in traffic.

The communication campaign included the dissemination on social networks of messages encouraging the use of lights, mirrors and reflective waistcoats to strengthen road awareness.
