XH - What is the FIA Extreme H World Cup?
World’s first FIA-sanctioned hydrogen racing event launches unique format

The inaugural FIA Extreme H World Cup takes place in Qiddiya, Saudi Arabia, next weekend (9-11 October) with pioneering equality and a unique sporting format underpinning the foundations for the world’s first ever FIA-sanctioned Hydrogen powered racing event.
Eight teams will scale the terrains of the Saudi Arabia desert with each outfit entering one female and one male driver, both boasting equal responsibilities behind the wheel as part of a dual effort to win the World Cup.
Each of the Pioneer 25 cars come equipped with hydrogen fuel cells, powered by hydrogen gas, with acceleration from 0-100kph in just 4.5 seconds.
The innovation doesn’t end with its pioneering equality and hydrogen power, however, as the following sporting format confirms the FIA Extreme H World Cup as one of the most unique events in global top-level motor sport…
Day 1 – Time Trial
Each driver completes a flying lap, with combined times setting standings. These will run across two heats with the running order for the second being determined by the result of the first heat.
Day 2 – Head-to-Head
Short side-by-side races, where drivers will navigate a technical chicane before the finish. Sixteen heats will narrow the field to four, who progress to knockout Semi-Finals and Finals.
Day 3 – Multi-Car Racing and Final
Wheel-to-wheel action with four-cars racing across two rounds. The World Cup Pool points table after three days of competition will decide the grid for the eight-car Final, a race that will determine the FIA Extreme H World Cup winner.
The competitive action gets underway on Thursday with the champion being crowned on Saturday afternoon. Fans can watch all of the action LIVE and free-to-air on the DAZN television network and keep up to date with the latest news via www.fiaextremeh.com
