World RX - Kristoffersson fights back in Q3

05.08.18

2018 World RX of Canada - Trois-Rivières - Qualifying 3

PSRX Volkswagen Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson struck back from ninth position overnight at the World RX of Canada, round seven of the FIA World Rallycross Championship with the quickest time in Q3.

Kristoffersson took a lap one joker after contact with Team Peugeot Total’s Kevin Hansen and Olsbergs MSE’s Kevin Eriksson at the first corner of race two and made it to the front of the field to win the race. His time wouldn’t be beaten in a drama-filled race two. Overnight TQ (top qualifier) Sebastien Loeb, EKS Audi Sport’s Mattias Ekstrom and PSRX’s Petter Solberg came together before the first corner of race three as Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud took the lead around the outside. Bakkerud defended his position by reacting to an early Solberg joker and won the race.

Ekstrom took a lap four joker and returned to the standard lap alongside Loeb’s Peugeot, the two former World Champions made contact and hit the wall on the outside. Loeb finished 12th quickest time but Ekstrom retired with broken steering. Bakkerud was second quickest and Kevin Hansen was third. Timmy Hansen, Solberg and GRX Taneco’s Niclas Gronholm completed the Q3 top six.

Gronholm’s team mate Timur Timerzyanov hit a tyre wall near the end of the Trois-Rivieres circuit on lap two of race one and was hit by GC Kompetition’s Guerlain Chicherit. Timerzyanov finished the race 13th quickest but Chicherit retired with broken suspension.
