World RX: Chicherit and Marklund join World RX finale in Germany

08.11.22

Guerlain Chicherit and Anton Marklund will race in the premier World RX category at the final round of this year’s FIA World Rallycross Championship at the Nürburgring this weekend (12-13 November), when the Frenchman debuts the exciting new Lancia Delta Evo-e RX and the newly-crowned Euro RX champion pilots a SEAT Ibiza RX1e.

Chicherit, a four-time World Freeriding champion and experienced rallycross racer, returns to World RX in a new all-electric car that is based on the legendary Lancia Delta Integrale and which has been designed and built by GCK Motorsport.

Marklund, who won the FIA European Rallycross Championship for a third time this year, will replace René Münnich in the Muennich Motorsport car. The Swedish ace is no stranger to World RX, having finished on the podium four times before – although, like Chicherit, it will be his first competitive World RX outing in an all-electric machine.

Chicherit and Marklund will face stiff opposition at the Nürburgring, led by Volkswagen Dealerteam BAUHAUS’ Johan Kristoffersson, who claimed his fifth World RX drivers’ title last time out in Catalunya.

Former World RX champion Timmy Hansen lies second in the points standings after winning Round 8 of the series at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. As he returns to the circuit where last season he lost out on a second career crown on countback, the Hansen World RX Team driver is determined to end his 2022 campaign on a high.

There is a tense three-way scrap for third between Niclas Grönholm, Kevin Hansen and Ole Christian Veiby.

Grönholm, who races for Construction Equipment Dealer Team, was a winner in Germany last year, with the younger Hansen brother following him home. Veiby has arguably the fastest car of the three at his disposal but has suffered from a run of ill-fortune in recent rounds that he hopes is now in the past.

Impressive teenager Gustav Bergström has rarely been far from the pace of his illustrious team-mates Kristoffersson and Veiby in a third Volkswagen RX1e – reaching the rostrum on three consecutive occasions in Belgium and Spain – while fellow rookie Klara Andersson returned to the final in Catalunya. The Swede won a heat at the Nürburgring in the FIA RX2e Championship in 2021, and has her sights set on a repeat of her Portuguese podium this weekend.

In the supporting Euro RX3 series, Kobe Pauwels (much like Kristoffersson in World RX) will be let off the leash with the championship already secured, but his rivals similarly have designs on victory. While the Belgian will unquestionably be tough to beat, fellow Audi drivers Damian Litwinowicz, João Ribeiro, Nuno Miguel da Costa Araújo and Nils Volland, as well as Škoda star Jan Černý, are all eager to open their winning accounts for 2022 before the final curtain falls.

The World RX of Germany coincides with the 2022 FIA Volunteers Weekend, which celebrates those who dedicate their time to making motor sport possible around the world.

The FIA Volunteers Weekend presents an opportunity to raise awareness and give thanks to the volunteers who carry out a wide variety of essential roles without which motor sport would simply not happen.

Throughout the weekend, the entire motor sport community is encouraged to join in and show their appreciation on social media by using #FIAVolunteersWeekend and sharing photos and stories of themselves in action over the two days – connecting motor sport volunteers at all levels from all around the world, from club events to world championships.

All the action from the World RX of Germany – including exclusive behind-the-scenes insights, interviews, in-depth expert analysis, drone shots, on-board cameras, and much more – will be live-streamed on RX+.
