Women in Motorsport Ambassadors programme set to launched in June 2012.

PRESS RELEASE

The FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, presided over by former world rally winning driver Michèle Mouton, will be hosting its first international seminar on 13 and 14 June in Paris. Established with the intention to facilitate the full participation of women in all aspects of motor sport, the Commission will, for the first time, be drawing together its National Coordinators from around the globe for a two-day seminar aimed at exchanging ideas and initiatives to promote and encourage women into the sport. In addition, the Commission will be playing its part in the promotion of the Action for Road Safety campaign, encouraging its Coordinators to drive the FIA’s safety messages that have particular relevance to females.

On 14 June, the Commission - in the presence of FIA President Jean Todt - will also be launching its FIA Women in Motorsport Ambassadors programme. The Ambassadors’ mission will be to spread the messages and actions of the Commission, with particular emphasis on demonstrating how to succeed in all areas of the sport, as well as the importance of work in the mobility sector. The Ambassadors will represent excellence in several sectors and will be announced at the end of the Seminar on 14 June.

Since its creation, the Women in Motorsport Commission has enlisted the support of Coordinators from 47 countries around the world, all of whom have been designated by their National Sporting Authority (ASN) to liaise with the Commission and help implement actions and programmes at a national level. During the seminar the Coordinators, along with invited guests and speakers, will have the opportunity to discuss issues that affect women in motor sport – both at national and international level – share knowledge and ideas, as well as formulate plans that encourage and identify opportunities for women in the sport.

The first FIA Women in Motorsport National Coordinators’ Seminar is being held in partnership with Volkswagen. As one of the world’s largest car manufacturers, the German marque has a philosophy of supporting aspiring talent and is already into its second year of association with the Commission through a joint project to help young women progress their careers through the Scirocco R-Cup.
