FIA Women in Motorsport ambassador Tatiana Calderón is set to join BWT Arden’s driver line-up for a maiden campaign in the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship. The series, which was created in 2017, is the ultimate training ground and final step up the motor sport pyramid to the pinnacle of the sport, Formula One.

“This is really exciting news for Tatiana and her career is going from strength to strength each season,” said Michèle Mouton, President of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission. “We have known for a long time her strong potential, which is also the result of her hard work and determination to succeed. As one of our own ambassadors I am extremely proud of what she is achieving.”

The 25-year-old Colombian is already familiar with the team after racing with them in GP3, before moving to the Sauber F1 Team in 2017 as its Development Driver. Last year she was promoted to Test Driver for Alfa Romeo Sauber, and was also invited to be part of the FIA Formula E tests in both Saudi Arabia and Marrakesh earlier this year.

Tatiana, who will compete alongside 19 other racers in identical specification F2 cars over the 12-round series that supports the FIA Formula One World Championship, said: “I’m very excited to compete in the FIA F2 Championship with Team BWT Arden in technical partnership with HWA RACELAB. It’s a new challenge in my career and a step closer to my ultimate goal to reach Formula 1. I want to thank my sponsors Coldeportes and Escudería Telmex-Claro for making it happen and to my family for always giving me their unconditional support. I’m sure we will achieve great things together. Can’t wait for testing to start next week!"

The opening round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship takes place at Bahrain’s Sakhir International Circuit from 29-31 March.
