In 2014, endurance racing adopted radical new LMP1 technical regulations that limited fuel consumption so that no competitor could gain a performance advantage by consuming more fuel than any other. The result has been a reduction in fuel consumption of around 25-30% for the same performance. So far in 2015 lap times have lowered significantly, with new lap records set at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, and the expectation is that new records will be set at the 24 Heures du Mans on the 13/14 June.

Since 2012 the world’s most famous endurance race has been part of the World Endurance Championship with double championship points awarded making the race an important part of a team and drivers world title bid. In addition every driver and team taking part wants to be part of the Roll of Honour that stretches back to the first race in 1923.

Marcel Fässler, Benoit Tréluyer and Andre Lotterer became the latest names to be added to the impressive roll of honour on the base of the 110 year old Tourist Trophy after Marcel Fässler took the chequered flag in the no7 Audi Sport R18 e-tron quattro to win the 6 Hours of Silverstone.

The no17 Porsche of Mark Webber and Brendon Hartley took pole position and underlined their pre-season testing pace when the 1m39.721 average lap time was three second faster than the 2014 pole time.
