SKA Hosts Inaugural FIA Girls on Track Session to Advance Female Participation in Motorsport

As part of its commitment to promoting women participation in motorsport, the Seychelles Karting Association (SKA) held its first FIA Girls on Track Special Session on Sunday 15 June 2025 at Champions Park Raceway. The initiative was conducted under the umbrella of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission and supports the broader goal of increasing female participation at all levels of the sport.

Seven female drivers participated in the session, representing a range of experience levels—from beginners to more advanced competitors. The group included Hailey Benoiton, Abraelle Fanny, Emma Esparon, Emma Lautee, Gaelle Alissop, Mitra Labrosse, and Liza Rene-Cosgrow.

Led by SKA founder and Head of Training David René, with support from senior officials, the programme featured practical driving activities, including a guided session, a short race, and the country’s first karting slalom competition. Hailey Benoiton delivered a notable performance in the Cadet category.

The event also introduced participants to key off-track roles within motorsport. Through dedicated sessions, the girls learned about functions such as timekeeping, marshalling, and environmental management—led by current SKA official Abigail Cosgrow. The session was well attended by families and supporters and received coverage from local media.

Recognising the specific context of a small island nation, SKA plans to establish a sustainable and scalable engagement model. Rather than integrating karting directly into school programmes, the association will focus on proactive outreach—such as school visits and public information sessions—to promote awareness and interest. SKA is also developing initiatives to involve adult women as volunteers, officials, and drivers as part of its upcoming grassroots development strategy.
