Q&A: FIA FR World Cup winner Théophile Naël
Following his thrilling victory in the FIA FR World Cup in Macau yesterday (Sunday), 18-year-old Frenchman Théophile Naël answered five key questions.

You’re the winner of the FIA FR World Cup and the 72nd Macau Grand Prix. How does that feel?
“It feels really, really good. To be honest, I was just patient, the pace was there the whole weekend. Both of my starts yesterday and today didn't go as planned so I just managed to stay calm, I know that we are racing in Macau so everything can happen until the chequered and flag. It was a rollercoaster the whole weekend and now the emotions are coming.”
In terms of best career moments where does victory rank?
“So far it’s the best, but I was not expecting this. I think I will realise more tomorrow what’s just happened but, at the moment, I’m just really happy. I want to enjoy this with my family who have been there for me since the start of the weekend, especially my brother, who is also my physio, a bit of everything. It’s such a cool moment for me. It was my first time with KCMG ENYA Pinnacle Motorsport, I really enjoyed working with them, the car was flying, they had a really good team spirit and so far it's my best weekend.”

Was there a moment when you believed you could win the race – there was a time when you were back in fourth (car #6 pictured above) and Freddie Slater was pulling away?
“At some point in the race it was not that good. I saw I had the pace, to be honest, but to overtake was really hard. When somebody is closing the door into T3 you cannot try on the outside. It was too risky, so I preferred to stay where I was. But, in Macau, everything can happen, like we saw, I’m super-happy.”
Your move for the lead when you were three abreast on the charge to Lisboa must have been special. What was it like from behind the wheel?
“I arrived really fast compared to them, they had to slow down quite a lot into T2. I used the slipstream to the end, then I went to the outside and saw I had some space to close the door before braking with Mari [Boya]. That’s what I did and then it was safe to make the corner.”

Although you said it was hard to understand that you won, you must be aware of some of the legendary names who have also taken victories in Macau, like Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher. What does that mean to you?
“I know only big names have won this race and now I am part of them. It’s just incredible. I’m 18 years old and I hope the best is yet to come and this will help me going forward.”
