Mobility as a service

2016 FIA Mobility Conference - A fascinating look forward at how Clubs can attract and retain members as mobility evolves
Mobility as a Service

This workshop included presentations from four speakers, as well as an invaluable opportunity for delegates to discuss ideas with their peers.

They were also able to present feedback to the room regarding the potential for Clubs to take advantage of the opportunities of Mobility as a Service, and highlight the different challenges faced by FIA Clubs around the world.

Sarwant Singh opened the session by showing a number of trends that show mobility shifting to fit a service model. From the corporate level, we see increasingly that companies provide allowances for mobility, not just for a car, reflecting the recent changes in car usage.

As he put it, the emerging world of “Smart Mobility” relies in many ways on big data, and by working together with corporations, suggested how Clubs might be able to use this data to develop more efficient mobility services.

Sampo Hietanen of ITS Finland then demonstrated how this idea is being pioneered in our host nation of Finland. They are working to provide a streamlined, unified mobile application based around a subscription structure that caters for every mobility requirement – particularly in urban areas.

Hietanen was keen to hear what delegates had to contribute, commenting, “The FIA can help make sure we achieve our goals in a fair way – this is where innovation happens.”

Following the table discussions, representatives from two Clubs who are already taking steps towards Mobility as a Service – CAA and ACI – gave case studies of their car sharing initiatives which have showed positive results in engaging with both current and new members.

The schemes in both Canada and Italy have shown increased engagement with younger people, and have great potential as the reality of Mobility as a Service grows.
