For the first time the FIA Smart Cities Forum will be held in the Pearl of the Orient on March 9

A world in which drones operate urban logistics and driverless cars perform daily commuting is coming quicker than one can imagine. It is believed that highly automated technologies will enhance urban mobility flows, unlock environmental benefits and strengthen the connectivity between urban and suburban areas.

The FIA Smart Cities Forum in Hong Kong will explore how well cities are prepared for the arrival of highly innovative and disruptive mobility solutions and what are the potential outcomes of these transformations.

Through dynamic panel discussions and Formula E track visit, the Forum seeks to shape a better vision of a smart cities ecosystem that spans multiple technology domains – ICT, smart energy, IoT, connectivity – and incorporates innovative policy-making (open data policies, public-private cooperation, user-drive regulations). Speakers from the Government of Hong Kong, Transport for London, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the World Economic Forum and other players in the field of Smart Cities will share their insights on how innovations can be integrated across urban transportation and which regulations will be required to allow the technology to take off at an unprecedented speed. Mobility experts will talk about the role of drones in urban logistics, discuss the opportunities that autonomous vehicles present and point to existing challenges in fostering the technological development.

Participants will also have a unique chance to visit the Formula E facility and hear about recent innovations piloted across the city-centric electric championship. Team garage tours and a practice session will conclude the day, providing Forum participants with a taste of exclusive motorsport experience.
