FIA Americas Awards Celebrate Sporting and Mobility Excellence Across the Region
The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, brought together Motor Sport and Mobility Clubs from across North and Central America, the Caribbean and South America in Panama City on Saturday 31 January to celebrate champions from across the region and recognise those driving large-scale improvements for road users.

Hosted by the Asociación Automovilística de Touring y Deportes de Panamá (ASAI Panama), the awards ceremony marked a successful year for motor sport and mobility in the Americas, presenting trophies to 46 drivers and organisations from 20 countries in recognition of their talent, success, and innovation.
The FIA Americas awards highlighted the diversity of motor sport delivered by Member Clubs across the Americas, from Karting to Touring Cars, Cross Car to Rally, while also showcasing best practice and innovation in making mobility safer, more sustainable and more affordable for everyone, and strengthening collaboration between Clubs, governments and the private sector across the region.
Attended by FIA Vice President for Sport – North America Daniel Coen and FIA Vice President for Sport – South America Fabiana Ecclestone, the gala underscored the region’s vital role in advancing the FIA’s global mission to develop motor sport and grow participation worldwide.
With FIA Deputy President for Automobile Mobility and Tourism Tim Shearman, FIA Region III President Frank Fotia and FIA Region IV President Ricardo Morales Rubio also present, the awards highlighted projects driving positive social impact across both Regions, recognising the individuals and organisations leading road safety and sustainability initiatives.
Standout performances were recognised from Sebastián Montoya Freydell, who completed his rookie FIA Formula 2 season last year, and Mario Parra, who excelled in the Chilean national rally championship. The awards also reflected the rapid growth of motor sport across the region, with the USA alone now generating nearly $70 billion in economic output and welcoming new events, including a World Rally Championship candidate event this year – the first step towards a return of WRC to U.S. soil.
Other winners included Nelson Angelo Piquet for his outstanding touring car performances in Brazil, and Naomi Garcia, a 16-year-old karting driver from Trinidad and Tobago, who competed in the inaugural FIA Karting Arrive and Drive World Cup in Malaysia last year.
From the world of mobility, individuals and organisations received recognition for their work promoting road safety and sustainability initiatives including Pedro Abril, Director of Ecuador’s Agencia Nacional de Tránsito, Marcelo Metediera, President of Uruguay’s Unidad Nacional para la Seguridad Via, Samuel Justavino (Panama), INCHCAPE (Costa Rica), La Meta (Honduras), la Fundación Mapfre (Colombia) and Brava International Ltd (Trinidad and Tobago)
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President, said: “North, Central, and South America are at the heart of global motorsport and mobility development, from grassroots events and pioneering initiatives to World Championship races and technological innovations. The award categories recognise your work to support our shared values to lead motorsport development, grow participation, and make mobility safer and more sustainable for all.”
