F3 - Double pole position for Mick Schumacher

2018 Race of Nürburgring - Qualifying 2

Mick Schumacher (PREMA Theodore Racing) was unbeatable in second qualifying at the 3.629 kilometres long Nürburgring sprint circuit. As a result, the German will be able to start the 23rd race of the season from the best grid position ahead of Robert Shvartzman (PREMA Theodore Racing), Daniel Ticktum (Motopark) and Marcus Armstrong (PREMA Theodore Racing). As Schumacher also came out on top in the ranking of the second-fastest laps, he will also be starting from pole position for the 24th race of the year. Shvartzman, Ticktum and Alex Palou (Hitech Bullfrog GP) round out the first two grid rows.

Starting grid race two 
Halfway through the session, Daniel Ticktum (1m20.912s) ranked on top while Mick Schumacher (1m20.805s) was in 15th place. As the second half got underway, the Prema driver attacked. Ticktum was able to counter, but Schumacher also managed to up the ante. As a reward, he claimed his third pole position in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.

The best-placed rookie Robert Shvartzman (1m20.892s) ended up second from Ticktum and Armstrong (1m20.965s). Palou (1m20.972s), Ralf Aron (1m20.974s), Jonathan Aberdein (Motopark, 1m21.056s), Sacha Fenestraz (Carlin, 1m21.264s), Guanyu Zhou (PREMA Theodore Racing, 1m21.304s) and Jüri Vips (Motopark, 1m21.355s) ended up in fifth to tenth place.

Starting grid race three 
In the ranking of the second-fastest laps, Schumacher (1m20.822s) also came out on top. Shvartzman (1m20.977s), Ticktum (1m21.014s), Palou (1m21.126s), Armstrong (1m21.127s), Fenestraz (1m21.268s), Aron (1m21.301s), Vips (1m21.372s), Zhou (1m21.376s) and Enaam Ahmed (Hitech Bullfrog GP, 1m21.439s) rounded out the top ten.

The team has done a tremendous job aswell, my car was outstanding to drive. I am very happy with the fact that things have been going so well for me since Spa-Francorchamps. I hope and I am optimistic as well that things keep going like this for me until the end of the season.”
