ETCC Race of Czech Republic - Qualifying Press Conference

05.09.15

Present:

David Kajaia, TC2T top qualifier Michal Matĕjovský, TC2 top qualifier

Niklas Mackschin, Super 1600 top qualifier Mato Homola, Single Make Trophy top qualifier

Q:

How pleased are you with your first Single Make Trophy and outright pole position of 2015?

MH:

It’s perfect. Honestly I didn’t expect this because we had some troubles in practice and I was struggling with the set-up. But in the last session [before qualifying] we found the set-up that suits me well and my lap was really perfect. I touched all apexes that I wanted and I don’t know where I could have improved myself. It’s really perfect for me.

Q:

You spoke yesterday about how the local hero Petr Fulín would be the driver to beat here so to have gone quicker than him must make this performance even more satisfying, right?

MH:

I’m surprised but he beat me in the Slovakia Ring so it’s one to one now. I’m really happy, not that I beat Petr Fulín but that I am quickest. But the races will be really, really tough against [Dušan] Borković and Fulín and so on.

Q:

You have a habit of dominating TC2T in 2015 and again you’re on pole in your class here in Czech Republic. Tell us about your qualifying performance today?

DK:

We had some problems in testing with the tyres and the settings but before qualifying we solved these problems and I think I was at maximum with my car and I am really pleased with my time.

Q:

You spent the summer racing back home in Georgia. How has that helped you today do you think?

DK:

It’s good preparation and it helped me to be fast today.

Q:

You’re the top Czech here in the press conference so please talk us through your qualifying?

MM:

We also had some problems with the set-up but in the end the set-up was good for qualifying and I tried to do the fastest time as soon as possible. I did it in the first lap and after that I checked the times

if somebody could go quicker than me. Nobody did and I am very happy that I saved the tyres for tomorrow’s two races.

Q:

You didn’t run in Free Practice this afternoon. Can you explain why?

MM:

We had some technical problems with the car and we wanted to avoid any more problems. In the end everything was fine.

Q:

As a Czech driver competing in the ETCC at home, how satisfied are you to be sat here right now?

MM:

I’m very pleased it worked out. I wasn’t quite in the top six but I beat some turbo cars so that’s good. I hope I will enjoy two races tomorrow.

Q:

Quickest again in Super 1600 Niklas – can you describe your qualifying effort?

NM:

Like all drivers here I had a little bit of problem with the rear tyres. But we found this problem and the car was good in qualifying, I am on pole and I am happy to be here.

Q:

Does that put more pressure on you being on pole in your class?

NM:

No it doesn’t and I hope I can win the two races tomorrow.

Q:

Until today you hadn’t been on pole in this year’s ETCC but you still haven’t got a victory. What’s the plan tomorrow?

MH:

My target is to win as every driver here. We will try to find some tactic for tomorrow but I think our overall pace is very good. But it’s all about the racing and we don’t know what will happen. I don’t  think there are any parts where I can be afraid.
