EHRC – Silvasti Leads at End of Day 1 in Lahti (FIN)

After the rain at Scrutineering yesterday, the weather for the first day of action on the Lahti Historic Rally was warm and sunny, with the thermometer climbing to 23 degrees in the afternoon.

The #101 Audi quattro A2 of Ville Silvasti and Risto Pietilainen finished the first day at the head of the leader board and after completing the six special stages the Finns, who had posted the fastest time on five of the stages, were leading by 52.5 seconds, with the #104 Audi of Kari Kivenne and Hannu Kemppinen, who had set the best time on SS3, in second place.

The #109 Ford Escort RS1800 of Ernie and Karen Graham were leading the Category 2 entry in 8th overall, the British crew 45 seconds ahead of the #118 Ford Escort 1300 GT of Mika Karpiola and Mika Karpiola, with Will Graham and Michael Johnston in third spot in the #111 Ford Escort RS1600.

The top EHRC Category 3 entry was the #117 Volvo 244 of Siegfried and Renate Meyr, the German couple finishing the day in 9thoverall.  The Category is headed by the #106 Volvo 242 of Jarno Gronholm and Joose Kojo in third overall.

Category 1 saw the little Alfa Romeo Guilietta t.i. of Teuvo Hamalainen and Pirjo Rosberg finish the day at the head of the field in 18th overall.  The Finns, who are taking part in their first EHRC event this season, are 57.9 seconds ahead of the #121 BMW 2002Ti or Sverre Norrgard and Anni Villikka.

Day 2 of the Lahti Historic Rally will feature six more stages, beginning at 09h04 (Local) 08h04 (CEST) tomorrow morning.
