The FIA European Historic Rally Championship moved south to Greece for round six of the 2025 season, as the Acropolis Rally delivered its trademark mix of searing heat, rocky gravel, and legendary stages. Just under 50 cars launched from the shadow of the Acropolis on Friday evening, with two demanding days of competition ahead before Sunday’s finish in the historic town of Delphi.
Latvala and Hussi took control early in their Toyota Celica, building a commanding advantage despite a scare on SS5 when a sudden misfire threatened to derail their charge. A swift fix by the JML-WRT service crew ensured their rally stayed on track, and from there the Finnish duo were untouchable. Crossing the finish in Delphi, they sealed overall honours, FIA Category 4 victory, and class J2D, keeping their championship ambitions alive with a maximum points haul.
Behind them, Greek duo Marios Stafilopatis and George Chatzirigas delighted home fans with second overall in their Lancia Delta Integrale, showing pace and consistency throughout the weekend. The final place on the overall podium looked set for Belgian ace Ghislain de Mevius and co-driver Johan Jalet, until their Mazda 323 GTX succumbed to mechanical issues on day two. de Mevius’ father, Grégoire, meanwhile, added his name to the weekend’s story with second place in the Pre-2000 Cup in his Nissan Sunny GTI-R.
Category 2 once again belonged to Poland’s Maciej Lubiak and Grzegorz Dachowski. A clean and confident run in their Porsche 911 brought both the category and class 2C win, strengthening Lubiak’s case as a leading contender for the 2025 EHRC crown.
In Category 4, Will Graham and Irish co-driver James O’Brien brought their BMW M3 home for second place in the class, adding valuable championship points for the Flexifly Rally Team. They were chased by Italy’s Enrico Brazzoli and Martina Musiari, who impressed with a class J1C win in their Porsche 911. Local pairing Alexandrou Christodoulou and Athanassios Samaras also earned plaudits for their spirited run in a Lancia Delta Integrale.
Category 3 served up its own drama as Germany’s Siegfried and Renate Mayr overcame a transmission failure thanks to spare parts generously loaned overnight by fellow competitor Pasi Hapulahti, true to the spirit of historic rallying. The husband-and-wife crew returned to secure maximum points with a class 3C victory, edging out Greek-Italian driver Andrea Farmakakis, who nevertheless celebrated top honours in class 3B.
Britain’s Ernie Graham and co-driver Karen Graham secured second in the category and took class 2B honours with their Ford Escort 2.0, while a consistent drive from local crews ensured strong representation in the top ten.
With the dust of Greece settling, the FIA EHRC campaign now moves to Italy for the Historic Rally Elba (26–28 September). With Latvala back in contention, Lubiak strengthening his grip on Category 2, and the title fight still wide open, the battle for the 2025 crown promises even more fireworks on the island’s famous asphalt.
