EHRC - A Look at the 2021 FIA European Historic Rally Championship Calendar

After the Covid-19 Pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Championship, the series returns in 2021 with nine events in seven European countries.  Seven of the events featured on the 2019 calendar, with one returning to the championship after an absence of five years, the Sanremo Rally Storico, and the Rallye International du Valais making its EHRC debut. 

The season is due to get underway at the start of April in Sanremo after the Rally Costa Brava moved from its original date in March and now becomes the season finale in November.  The second Spanish rally, the Rally de Asturias Historico, also moved from its original date in May to September.

Round 1: 36th Sanremo Rally Storico (Italy)

Based in the Italian coastal city, the 36th edition of the Sanremo Rally Storico will be the opening round of the 2021 FIA EHRC.  The rally will feature a total distance of 448km, of which 135km will be held on the 14 special stages over two legs.  This will be the first time the Sanremo Rally Storico has been included on the EHRC calendar since April 2016.

 

Round 2: 29th Historic Vltava Rallye (Czech Republic)

The Historic Vltava Rallye is based in the town of Janovice nad Úhlavou in the Pizen Region of the Czech Republic.  The Pizen Region is part of the beautiful Bohemian Forest that straddles the border with Germany and Austria and the rally attracts a large entry from across Europe.

 

Round 3: 54th Mecsek Rallye (Hungary)

Pécs is the fifth largest city of Hungary, located on the slopes of the Mecsek mountains in the south-west of the country, close to its border with Croatia.  The Mecsek Rallye hosted the season finale in October 2019, it now moves to Round 3 in June 2021

 

Round 4: Rally Weiz (Austria)

Situated in the state of Styria in the southeast of Austria, the Rally Weiz made its debut on the FIA calendar in 2019 and the event was universally liked by the competitors, who enjoyed the challenging roads in and around Weiz.

 

Round 5: Lahti Historic Rally (Finland)

The Lahti Historic Rally is the northernmost competition in the FIA European Historic Rally Championship calendar and is also the only gravel rally on the schedule.  Held in and around the lakes and forests 100km north of Helsinki, the Lahti Historic Rally is one of the ‘must see’ events on the EHRC calendar.

 

Round 6:  Rally Asturias Histórico (Spain)

Held in Northern Spain in and around the historic city of Pravia, the 2021 Rally Asturias Histórico will now host round 6 on the EHRC calendar.  Asturias boasts a beautiful coastline and mountain roads, making the rally one of most challenging on the calendar.

 

Round 7: 33rd Rally Elba Storico (Italy)

The 7th round of the 2021 championship will take place on the Italian island of Elba with competitors taking in the beautiful scenery.  The Rally Elba Storico will consist of 400km of the most beautiful roads in Europe, a third of which are special stages.

 

Round 8: Rallye International du Valais (Switzerland)

The Rallye International du Valais will make its EHRC debut in 2021. The first edition of the Rallye International du Valais was held in 1981 and British Champion Jimmy McRae, father of 1995 World Rally Champion Colin McRae, win on Valais’ roads at the wheel of an Opel Ascona 400.

 

Round 9: 69th Rally Costa Brava (Spain)

The Rally Moritz Costa Brava, the oldest rally in Spain, is renowned for its history. With magnificent machines from every era of European rallying, the Rally Moritz Costa Brava is considered one of the best continental historic rallies and is a fitting location for the 2021 season finale.
