EDRC: second part of the season to kick off in Sweden

09.08.23

Following two thrilling opening events of the 2023 FIA European Drag Racing Championship season, the competition will return for the second of the two Swedish events scheduled at Tierp Arena from 10 to 13 August

With three races in the span of just four weeks, the drivers and teams of the FIA EDRC will have no time to relax in the second half of the season. Ida Zetterström (Top Fuel), Linn Fløysvik (Top Methanol), Jan Ericsson (Pro Modified) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Stock) are the leaders in their respective categories, but each title contention is far from over, with several drivers in each class in close pursuit.

Top Fuel Driver Ida Zetterström leads the championship with two wins and a 38 points advantage ahead of Suzanne Callin, who had an early exit in the previous round in Tierp.  Denmark's Stig Neergaard and Finland's Antii Horto, 4th and 3rd respectively in the last round at Tierp, will also be fighting to end Zetterström's winning streak.

With six cars, the Top Methanol category has a larger field than we have seen in several years and, just as it is in Top Fuel, women lead the championship through Norway’s Linn Fløysvik, who has a 29-points advantage over Silvio Strauch. Reigning Champion Sandro Bellio, 60 points behind Fløysvik, will need a good result at Tierp to keep hopes alive for a third consecutive title.

With no fewer than 22 entries, Pro Modified is once again the category with the largest field of the four FIA classes. Jan Ericsson extended his lead in the championship to 46 points after the previous round at Tierp, but the battle for the trophy will be tight and fierce with his five closest rivals all within a 47 points difference.

The Pro-Stock field is tight together due to the fact that their season opener in Tierp in June was limited by bad weather to only qualifying and a single elimination round. Multiple Champion Jimmy Ålund is the current leader with a six-point advantage over Stefan Ernryd. Michael Malmgren and Simon Ekengren are in third and fourth position in the championship, one and three points behind Ernryd respectively.

Qualifying for the FIA classes during the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals will start on Friday August 11 and will continue on Saturday August 12. Eliminations will start on Sunday morning.
