EDRC - Mäkelä victorious in Top Fuel at Tierp Internationals

Anita Mäkelä raced to victory over Micke Kågered in the Top Fuel final of the Tierp Internationals, round two of the 2019 FIA European Drag Racing Championship.

In Top Methanol Jonny Lagg defeated Silvio Strauch to take the win. In Pro Modified Jan Ericsson took the win over David Vegter, while in Pro Stock Jimmy Ålund defeated Michael Malmgren in the final.

Top Fuel:  Mäkelä takes second win of the season

Number two qualifier Mäkelä won her first round over Jndia Erbacher and then had to face Maja Udtian in a repeat of the final of the opening round of the season at Santa Pod.

Udtian stunned with a great 3.84 seconds in her first round win over Timo Lehtimäki, almost equalling the European record. In the semi-final Udtian ran into problems, handing the win to Mäkelä, who stormed to a great 3.85 seconds.

In the final Mäkelä had to face Micke Kågered. The Swedish racer surprised with a first round win over number one qualifier Liam Jones when the British driver losing traction.

Came the semi-final and Kågered improved to 4.00 seconds to take the win over Tethys. In the final it was once again Mäkelä who was in a class of her own and stormed to 4.0 seconds to defeat Kågered. For the reigning champion it was the second consecutive win as she also won the first round of the championship at Santa Pod.

Top Methanol: Lagg comes out on top

In Top Methanol there was a major upset in the semi-final as the number one qualifier Daniel Jedborn ran into problems and handed the win to Strauch.

In the other semi-final Lagg defeated Sandro Bellio, winner of the first round in England. In an extremely close final Lagg defeated Strauch on a holeshot to take the win.

Pro Modified: Ericsson wins

Pro Modified was once again spectacular and exciting. Number four qualifier, Vegter advanced to the final after defeating Kim Kristiansen in the first round, a bye run when reigning champion Jimmy Ålund couldn’t come back in time for the quarter final, and a surprise win over number one qualifier Andreas Arthursson in the semi-final.

On the other side of the ladder number two qualifier Ericsson was successful with wins over Roger Johansson and Mats Eriksson. With both drivers running consistent 5.8-second runs, the final promised to be a close one, but after a great start Vegter ran into problems, handing the win to Ericsson who recorded another great 5.83 seconds to take the win.

Pro Stock: Two out of two for Ålund

In Pro Stock the number one and two qualifiers, Malmgren and Ålund made no mistakes and both reached the final. Malmgren defeated Simon Gustafsson and Stefan Ernryd, while Ålund was too quick for Christian Sagelv and Robin Norén, who was the surprise winner over reigning champion Bengt Ljungdahl in the first round. In the final Ålund had the better start and recorded a winning 6.60 seconds over Malmgren. After winning at Santa Pod, this was the second consecutive win of the season for the multiple champion.

The FIA European Drag Racing Championship continues from July 5 to 7 at Kauhava, Finland.
