Action-packed race at Spa – Jake Dennis wins

20.06.15
After a turbulent FIA Formula 3 European Championship race, Jake Dennis (Prema Powerteam) celebrated his third victory of the season.

At the 7.004 kilometres long Spa-Francorchamps Grand Prix track, the Brit won from Santino Ferrucci (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) and Sérgio Sette Câmara (Motopark). For American driver Ferrucci and Brazilian Sette Câmera, these results were their first FIA Formula 3 European Championship podium finishes. Team Motopark also scored its maiden FIA Formula 3 European Championship podium result. Charles Leclerc (Van Amersfoort Racing), who started the 14th race of the season, took the chequered flag in sixth place and thus extended his FIA Formula 3 European Championship points’ lead.

At the start, Mikkel Jensen (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) made the best use of his pole position and took the lead from Lance Stroll (Prema Powerteam) and Jake Dennis (Prema Powerteam). Soon after that, Canadian driver Stroll overtook his Danish rival Jensen and led an FIA Formula 3 European Championship race for the first time in his career. Stroll also held on to his lead during the safety car intervention that followed after an incident involving Kang Ling (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport), Julio Moreno (ThreeBond with T-Sport) and Tatiana Calderón (Carlin). After the restart, he had to defend his first place from Mikkel Jensen and Felix Rosenqvist (Prema Powerteam), until all three collided and retired. While Jake Dennis moved up into first place, race control sent the safety car out for the second time. Racing resumed on lap nine, but only one lap later, Gustavo Menezes (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) barrel-rolled his car after he found himself unable to avoid a collision with Brandon Maïsano (Prema Powerteam). During the third safety car intervention, the drivers made it safely to the finish.

Thus, Jake Dennis celebrated his victory from Santino Ferrucci, Sérgio Sette Câmara, Brandon Maïsano, Dorian Boccolacci (Signature), Charles Leclerc, Maximilian Günther (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport), Raoul Hyman (Team West-Tec F3), Antonio Giovinazzi (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) and Alessio Lorandi (Van Amersfoort Racing).

Jake Dennis (Prema Powerteam): “For me, this was a solid race. My start was good and I was able to move up into third place. However, Felix was quicker and he overtook me again soon after that. After the incident involving Felix, Lance and Mikkel, I found myself in first place and I safely brought this first place home.”

Santino Ferrucci (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport): “The start of the season was tough for me, but now, we are on the right way. I had a good start and I managed to overtake Brandon Maïsano soon after that. I am really happy with my second place. The car was great and the team did an excellent job.”

Sérgio Sette Câmara (Motopark): “Being on the podium here is very nice, especially as things haven’t been going too well for me so far this season. My team has been working hard, we have been able to improve race by race and we have deserved this success. My race was good, I stayed out of all the troubles and I tried to bring the car to the finish, which I did.”
