ACM's "Keep your Kids Safe in Cars" initiative proves a success

The results of the Automobile Club of Moldova (ACM) and Moldovan government’s initiatives with regard to child restraint systems proved great progress was achieved through awareness raising.

Following its “Keep your kids safe in cars!” initiative – organised with the support of the FIA Road Safety Grant Programme, FIA Foundation, EASST, Moldovan Parliament, MIA, NPI, Ministries of Health and Education – the Automobile Club of Moldova (ACM) presented the results of the campaign during a final press conference.

The results of the post-campaign survey, focusing on child seat use for children aged up to 12 years old, showed an 8% increase in regular use of child restraint systems and a 7% increase in car seat use up to 3 times per week. Awareness-raising and informative actions carried out in partnership with the patrolling police resulted in a 26% increase in knowledge of the law by the population.

As a result of the initiative, a remarkable decrease in the number of accidents involving children was recorded in Southern Moldova; from 18 accidents involving minors and 1 fatality to 3 accidents with no fatalities.

The event also presented a good opportunity to discuss next steps. The Automobile Club of Moldova announced an important initiative for 2018: the launch of a car seat donation platform. This project would involve donations from families who no longer need a child seat to families that cannot afford them, thereby ensuring more children travel safely. The Belarusian Auto Moto Touring Club (BKA) will conduct a similar project in Belarus.
