On 17 March 2018, the Automobile Association of Singapore organised the Overseas Safe Driving Forum 2018, a one-of-a-kind platform addressing safe driving abroad.

The Overseas Safe Driving Forum 2018 attracted over 300 participants, comprising AA members and members of public, delegates of FIA Region II, as well as local and overseas speakers.

The Overseas Safe Driving Forum provides a platform for participants to better understand the importance of pre-trip preparations and gain knowledge on overseas safe driving tips through sharing sessions with road safety experts.

Besides local speakers, the forum also featured speakers from AA Malaysia, the AAM Road Safety Committee, the Road Safety Council Malaysia, ASEAN NCAP, the Royal Automobile Club of Australia, and AA Singapore’s Autoventure.

Mr Bernard Tay, President of AA Singapore opened the forum by addressing AA’s involvement and advocacy in road safety campaigns and outreach programmes in particular through the publishing of safety materials for distribution to AA members and the motoring public. He also shared the importance of driver’s preparedness before embarking on an overseas drive.

Through the half-day forum, participants learned practical tips and knowledge on making global roads safer for everyone, especially vulnerable road users. Indeed, better preparation and understanding of different culture and driving habits can help prevent road accidents abroad.

At the Overseas Safe Driving Forum, AA Singapore also launched an aide-mémoire (accessible here: https://www.aas.com.sg/safedriving) for overseas driving experiences. It contains some reminders, tips, and advice for drivers travelling overseas.

As part of AA Singapore’s efforts to promote safe driving, AA Singapore is currently working with AA Malaysia and JKJR (The Malaysian Road Safety Department) to publish a map off Malaysia, highlighting the various blackspot locations, which are accident-prone areas.

As a strong advocate of road safety, AA Singapore will continue to organise more of such road safety campaigns and activities in the coming future.
