This season’s battle to become the 2018 FIA World Rally Champion continues to be one of the most dramatic in years and, with two rounds remaining, the uncertainty over who will claim the prestigious drivers’ trophy at the FIA Prize Giving in Saint Petersburg remains.

The three-way fight between Thierry Neuville, Sébastien Ogier and Ott Tänak resumes this weekend on Rally de España, where mixed surface competition on both gravel and asphalt adds a different dimension to any other round of the Championship. Neuville currently tops the standings and, should everything work in the Belgian’s favour, he could well seal a maiden title in Spain. After a remarkable win in Wales last time out, multiple FIA World Rally Champion Sébastien Ogier is only seven points adrift in second and the Frenchman needs to maintain the momentum to take the fight to the final round in Australia. In contrast, disappointment for Tänak in the Welsh forests dropped the Estonian to third, a further 14 points adrift of Ogier. But, with a maximum of 60 points still available to bag, the thrilling battle that has been littered with dramatic and emotional highs and lows for all three drivers could easily take another twist in Spain.

The FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers also remains wide open with three of the four teams still in the fight. After a string of strong podium results, Toyota Gazoo Racing heads the standings with the Hyundai Shell Mobis and M-Sport Ford World Rally Teams pushing the Japanese marque.
