WRC - 2015 Wales Rally GB - Preview

09.11.15
The final round of the FIA World Rally Championship takes the contenders into the autumnal Welsh forests for one of the most traditional gravel events on the calendar, Rally GB

Largely characterised by the weather during Britain’s winter months, Wales Rally GB can throw up any manner of conditions including rain, snow, ice and fog, all of which give this event a formidable reputation.

In the fight for titles, the FIA WRC 3 Championship remains the biggest one up for grabs in the Welsh forests and the contenders in their two-wheel drive cars will be battling it out over the 19 stages that make up this year’s event.

Two stages will be broadcast live; SS9 (Gartheiniog 2) on Saturday and the Brenig Power Stage on Sunday.

THE 2015 ROUTE

Crews will be familiar with the stages from 2013 and 2014, albeit nearly all of them with some minor changes. This year, the ceremonial start moves to Llandudno, and Friday’s route sees the re-introduction of the famous Myherin stage. The opening day of competition also only has a tyre fitting zone in Newtown and no mid-day service opportunity. Saturday is long; competitors leave the service park at 05:00 hrs and return for a mid-afternoon service before heading back to the forests for two night stages. On Sunday, the scenic Great Orme stage - run on asphalt around the coastline - returns for the first time since 2013.
