WEC - Toyota on Top in Le Mans after Free Practice

The no7 Toyota TS050 was the quickest car in the first practice session with Kamui Kobayashi setting a 3m18.719 lap round the full 13.6km La Sarthe circuit.  The no8 Toyota of Sebastien Buemiwas second quickest, 0.557 seconds behind the leading car.

The no3 Rebellion Racing R13-Gibson of Thomas Laurent was the third quickest in LMP1 and the fastest of the non hybrid cars with a 3m19.426, just 0.708 behind the leading Toyota.  The no10 Dragonspeed BR01-Gibson of Ben Hanley was fourth with a 3m20.322.

The LMGTE Pro category was led by Porsche, with the no93 911 RSR of Patrick Pilet fastest with a3m50.121 heading a 1-2-3 for the German manufacturer.  The no92 Porsche of Laurens Vanthoor was the fastest of the WEC cars with a 3m5.859, 0.738 seconds behind the IMSA entered car and just 0.003s ahead of the no91 911 of Gianmaria Bruni. The no66 Ford GT of Olivier Pla finished on 1 3m51.498, just ahead of the no71 AF Corse Ferrari Davide Rigon.

The no26 G-Drive Racing Oreca-Gibson was the fastest car in the LMP2 category with Jean-Eric Vergne setting a 3m26.529.  The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps race winner finished 0.5 seconds ahead of the IDEC Sport Oreca of Paul Loup Chatin and a further 0.7 seconds ahead of the fastest WEC entered car, the no28 TDS Racing Oreca-Gibson, with Loic Duval setting a 3m27.817.

The no88 Dempsey Proton Racing Porsche finished ahead in the LMGTE Am class with Matteo Cairoli setting a 3m52.903, a time good enough to finish ahead of seven LMGTE Pro class cars.  The no86 Gulf Racing Porsche of Ben Barker was second fastest with a 3m53.834 lap, 0.1 seconds ahead of the no54 Spirit of Race Ferrari F488 of Giancarlo Fisichella.

The first of three 2-hour qualifying sessions will take place at 22h00 this evening.
