WEC - Toyota and Porsche Ready for Qualifying at Spa

Toyota Gazoo Racing claimed the top two positions in the third and final Free Practice session ahead of tomorrow’s TOTAL 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, Round 7 of the 2018/19 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Kamui Kobayashi set the pace in no7 Toyota TS 050 HYBRID, setting a best lap of 1m54.105s, 2.2 seconds ahead of the no8 Toyota with Kazuki Nakajima posting the best time for that car of 1m56.351.

The no17 SMP Racing BR01, which had set the fastest time in FP1, was third as the Russian team continues good recent form.  Egor Orudzhev set the best time of 1m56.842s, just 0.5 behind the no8 Toyota.  The no11 BR1-AER was fourth in hands of local hero Stoffel Vandoorne.

Gianmaria Bruni set a late session best time in no91 Porsche 911 RSR to claim top spot in LMGTE Pro, the 1000 miles of Sebring class winner setting a 2m13.722 lap.  The Italian’s 911 stopped in the pitlane entry at end of session and had to be pushed back to garage.

Ford Chip Ganassi’s Harry Tincknell had set the pace in LMGTE Pro with British driver’s best lap of 2m13.945s , but was pushed down to second in class by Bruni’s late lap.  Porsche were also third as championship leader Michael Christensen laps in 2m14.264 in no92 Porsche 911 RSR.

Olivier Pla made it a 1-4 for Ford as the French driver posted a late session best time of 2m14.480s in no66 Ford GT.

G-Drive Racing is aiming to take a third consecutive LMP2 victory at Spa and Jean-Eric Vergne led the way on a best lap of 2m01.143s ahead of qualifying.  The Jackie Chan DC Racing pair place second and third as the no37 Oreca heads the no38 entry by one second.

The no88 Dempsey-Proton Racing team heads the LMGTE Am class with Matteo Cairoli setting a 2m15.190s best.  It was a Porsche 1-2 in class with the no77 Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche in second position
