WEC – Toyota and Porsche Quickest ahead of Qualifying in Japan

The no8 Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050-Hybrid finished the third and final Free Practice ahead of the 30 car field with Brendon Hartley posting the fastest time of the weekend so far.  The New Zealander set a 1m25.621, just two thousandths faster than Kazuki Nakajima’s best time at the end of the first day at Fuji Speedway.

The no7 Toyota was second fastest, just two tenths behind after Kamui Kobayashi set a 1m26.827.  Rebellion Racing were third, just over half a second behind the lead Toyota after Gustavo Menezes’ 1m26.172 lap.  The two Ginettas were 4th and 5th.

The no91 Porsche 911 RSR-19 went back to the top of the time sheets in the LMGTE Pro category with Gianmaria Bruni’s lap time of 1m37.501 seven tenths quicker than the best time set on day 1 in FP2.  The Porsche was 0.195s ahead of the no95 Aston Martin Racing Vantage of Nicki Thiim, with the no97 Vantage third fastest in the class.

LMP2 was headed by the no29 Racing Team Nederland Oreca, with Nyck De Vries posting a 1m29.006 lap time, four tenths ahead of the no38 JOTA Oreca of Anthony Davidson and one second ahead of the no42 Cool Racing Oreca-Gibson of Nico Lapierre.

Porsche also topped the LMGTE Am category ahead of qualifying with the no77 Dempsey Proton Racing 911 RSR finishing the 60-minute session two tenths ahead of the no83 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE.  Matt Campbell posted a 1m37.807 in the no77 Porsche compared to 1m38.034 set by Nicklas Nielsen in the no83 Ferrari.  The no56 Team Project 1 Porsche of Matteo Cairoli was just 0.017s behind the no83 Ferrari at the chequered flag.

Qualifying for the 6 Hours of Fuji will begin at 13h10 (Local) / 06h10 (CET).
