The first fast charger for electric vehicles of one of the main Paraguay highways, the National Route PY01, was launched by Touring y Automóvil Club Paraguayo (TACPy) on Friday 12 November within the framework of the ‘Race to Zero campaign’, promoted by the FIA and the UN. This campaign is aimed at mobilising the private and public sectors towards zero emissions transport in the face of COP26.

This initiative benefited from collaboration with BYD, Diesa, TACPy and CADAM following the work carried out during the Electromobility Roundtables in 2019.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Villa Florida, Mr. Richard Castiñeira. Also present were TACPy President, Dr. Hugo Mersán Galli; BYD Manager Mr. Pablo Pascuali; Diesa Senior Technician David Kanazawa; representatives of the National Traffic and Road Safety Agency (ANTSV), of the Binational Entity Yasyreta and of Epesa.

During the opening ceremony, Dr. Hugo Mersán said: “the future of the automotive industry will be electric and that is why it is important to provide these types of charging points on the main roads of the country.” He then recalled his participation in the FIA American Congress, held in Puebla, Mexico, where one of the main debates concerned the development and promotion of sustainable mobility and zero carbon emissions.

The event culminated with the symbolic activation of the charger and a demonstration carried out by Diesa's Senior Technician, David Kanazawa, who showed attendees how the electric charger works and the economic and environmental advantages of electric vehicles.
