ÖAMTC has launched a free floating electric scooter sharing service in Vienna and Graz, open to the public and not only limited to its members.

The rollout features 150 eScooters in Vienna and 15 in Graz that will be available from March until November (because of weather conditions).

The user must download the “EasyWay” app either for iOS or Android in order to locate and start the scooter. The app is free of charge and all you need to register is a valid EU driver’s licence (IDPs will be incorporated soon), a picture and credit card details.

“With the eScooter sharing the ÖAMTC becomes for the first time a mobility provider. ÖAMTC offers battery powered scooters, because the urban areas demand a flexible, environmentally friendly and cheap transport option” says ÖAMTC’s CEO Oliver Schmerold.

The service aims to close the gap in public transportation systems, it is supposed to cover shorter distances and provide an alternative to avoid traffic jams.

The initial analysis is positive and shows room for growth in this market niche.
