The stand affords a unique insight into the various activities undertaken by the Federation: mobility, motor sport and safety, both on the road and the race track. On show, representing the FIA’s sporting side is a Formula 4 car from the category that is the first step on a journey aimed at youngsters who want to get to Formula 1. A Formula 1 car chassis is on hand to demonstrate how a driver is extricated from the cockpit in the event of an accident, while a special area tells the story of the evolution of the racing crash helmet from the Fifties to the present day.

There is plenty of space given over to all the global road safety campaigns promoted by the Federation. One particular section is dedicated to the FIA High Level Panel for Road Safety, the initiative launched last November with the support of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon. Its aim is to engage both the public and the private sectors to raise funding and political awareness in response to the road safety crisis, and to remobilise support for the goals of the Decade of Action and for the new Sustainable Development Goals, which were approved at the UN General Assembly, and through which governments committed to halving road traffic fatalities by 2020.
Still on the road safety theme, a special booth is showing a short film directed by Luc Besson – “Save Kids Life” which supports the eponymous campaign launched by the UN Road Safety Collaboration which draws attention to the 500 children, one every three minutes, who are killed every day on the world’s roads, by encouraging people to sign the Child Declaration on Road Safety.
The stand, which is situated in Hall 1 on the first floor (number 1240,) also highlights the Federation’s involvement with mobility and campaigns such as “Golden Rules” for safer driving and another focused on safety for children in cars (Child Restraints) and My Car Data, a study carried out by FIA Region 1 in 12 European countries, looking into the relationship between motorists and connectivity in cars. The public can also try a simulator to test their own driving ability and reflexes, having to react to obstacles that can be encountered every day at the wheel of a car.
