The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has awarded the first ever FIA Women In Motorsports and Empowering Disabled Motorsport Award at the FIA General Assemblies week in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The two new awards recognise outstanding contributions to building a more diverse, inclusive and accessible motor sport ecosystem. They highlight the work of FIA Member Clubs, teams and individuals who are driving change on and off the track, from grassroots programmes to elite competition. The FIA received over 21 nominations, underlining the strong commitment across the motor sport community to bring about positive change.
The FIA Women in Motorsport Award recognises inspiring role models who are opening up opportunities for girls and women across every area of motor sport.
The 2025 FIA Women in Motorsport Award has been presented to 17-year-old Danish F1 Academy driver Alba Hurup Larsen for her Girls International Racing Lab (G.I.R.L.) initiative, a network that empowers young girls and shows them a clear pathway into motor sport. By organising races, meet-ups and mentoring sessions with Alba and other role models, the initiative has already engaged over 400 girls and young women in Denmark alone and aims to reach 15,000 globally in 2026.
The 2025 Empowering Disabled Motorsport Award, which recognises outstanding contributions to disability inclusion in motor sport, has been awarded to the ADAC Südbayern, the Bavarian regional club of Germany’s mobility club ADAC.
ADAC Südbayern's Inclusive Motorsport initiative combines adaptive tech, inclusive events, and collaboration with a vast network of partners around the nation to bring people with and without disabilities together on and off the track. From adaptive e-karting, all-terrain wheelchairs that open up rallies, inclusive ride-along experiences, and collaboration with sheltered workshops that produce merchandising, the Inclusive Motorsport has grown substantially linking over 3,000 clubs with +700 workshops. This initiative shows how small steps at the club level can add up to big change.
By introducing the FIA Women in Motorsport Award and the FIA Empowering Disabled Motorsport Award, the FIA is reinforcing its long term commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion across all its activities.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President, said: “Increasing accessibility in motorsport is at our core, so I am proud to launch the new FIA Women in Motorsport Award and Empowering Disabled Motorsport Award to recognise the valuable work of our Members across the world. Congratulations to ADAC Südbayern and Alba Hurup Larsen, for their commitment to increasing motorsport participation and driving our shared values forward.“
Alba Hurup Larsen, 2025 FIA Women in Motorsports Award Winner, said: “I started G.I.R.L. when I was 15 to make it easier for other girls to try motorsport and to strengthen the mental resilience of teenage girls everywhere. The response and support have been incredible. Our goal for 2026 is to see 15,000 girls take part in G.I.R.L. events across the world. This award feels like the ultimate recognition of that mission, and it gives me more confidence than ever that we’ll attract more partners and collaborators, so we make this vision a reality and go even further.”
ADAC Südbayern, 2025 FIA Empowering Disabled Motorsport Award Winner, said: “Inclusive Motorsport is about breaking down barriers and creating equal access, so that people with disabilities can share the same experiences and opportunities. We thank the FIA for recognising the hard work that our volunteers, partners and participants put in every day to ensure that motor sport is truly open to everyone.”
