FIA President Jean Todt visits Africa

President of the FIA Jean Todt visited Uganda to attend the first FIA African Sport Regional Congress, held in Kampala from August 26th to the 28th
FIA Regional Sport Congress

Organised under the supervision of Surinder Thatti, Vice-President for Sport, alongside the support of Jack Wavamunno (FMU) and John Mutenda (AAU), the Congress offered an informative programme for delegates representing 20 different countries.

Workshops and plenaries provided the representatives with a concrete toolkit for which to best tackle the challenge of growing motor sport in Africa.

A karting activity held on Thursday 27th highlighted how interest can be generated around the sport from grassroots upwards, guaranteeing the best safety conditions.

Jean Todt attended together with Graham Stoker, Deputy-President for Sport and Andrew Papadopoulos, President of CAMS and of the ASN Development Task Force.

The FIA President utilised the opportunity to meet with several high-profile officials, including Ruhakana Rugunda, the Prime Minister of Uganda and the United Nations Country Team to discuss road safety matters.

Prior to attending the Kampala event, Jean Todt met with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi, to discuss rallying in the country. There he was also greeted by AAK Chairman Eliud Njoroge and KMSF President JS Vohra
