2019 Rally Finland - Hall of Fame

2019 Rally Finland Hall of Fame - Inductee Jean Todt

Rally Finland has hosted a Hall of Fame for a number of years, paying tribute to some of the biggest stars from the event’s past. This year, new Hall of Fame inductees Jean Todt, Timo Salonen and Seppo Harjanne were honoured with a special exhibition in the rally headquarters in Jyväskylä’s Paviljonki.

The restrospective featured four cars that played key roles in their careers: the Peugeot 205 T16 road car and iconic Group B rally car (masterminded by Todt), as well as the Datsun Violet and Nissan 240 RS rally cars that Salonen and Harjanne competed in together.

The Peugeot 205T16, under Todt’s team management, won the World Rally Championship for drivers and manufacturers in 1985 and 1986. It also won Rally Finland in both those years, courtesy of Salonen and Harjanne, the 1985 world champions.

Harjanne became the co-driver of Tommi Mäkinen and then joined the organisation of Rally Finland after his retirement from competition. Salonen remains the most successful driver of the Group B era, with seven wins and one world title earned throughout the most legendary period of rallying. He made a one-off comeback on Rally Finland in 2002, driving a Peugeot 206 WRC and finished 14th overall.

Jean Todt joined Ferrari in 1993 and led the team to eight manufacturers’ titles, six driver titles, and 106 victories in Formula 1. Since 2009, he has been President of the FIA.
