FIA launches 2025 Sustainable Innovation Series, kicking off first event in Shanghai with Formula E
- 2025 programme will explore sustainable innovation across motor sport and mobility, in close collaboration with FIA Championships.
- Events with Formula E, WEC, WRC, and Formula 1 are scheduled for 2025.
- First event to take place on 29 May with Formula E in Shanghai, bringing experts together to discuss track-to-road innovation, hydrogen power, China’s electro-mobility landscape and more.

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has today announced the launch of its 2025 Sustainable Innovation Series.
First launched in March 2024, the FIA Sustainable Innovation Series is a global events programme focused on working towards more sustainable solutions across motor sport and mobility. Last year’s events spanned three continents, welcomed government ministers, and covered topics ranging from e-mobility in Rwanda to ‘racing without a trace’ at SailGP. Building on this momentum, the 2025 series will feature an expanded calendar of events aimed at driving actionable change across the industry.
The series’ first event on 29 May 2025, Innovation in Motion: Global Forces Behind Mobility Transition, marks the second time that the FIA and Formula E have joined forces to champion sustainable mobility. Following the success of last year’s event in Tokyo, the 2025 conference will focus on the vital role of motor sport in driving track-to-road innovation, such as innovations in electric mobility or pioneering research into sustainable fuel and powertrains. Speakers will include Sara Mariani (Director of Sustainability and D&I at the FIA), Zhou Xiaoxu (President of the FIA Electric and New Energy Championships Commission), Habib Turki (Chief Development Officer at the FIA), and Marek Nawarecki (Circuit Sport Director at the FIA), as well as leading industry figures from Formula E, government, NGOs, research institutions, and car manufacturers.
Hosted in partnership with Formula E’s Change.Accelerated.Live programme, this event will take place ahead of the Shanghai E-Prix. You can register here for in-person attendance at the Bund City Hall Plaza.
Find initial details of the remaining events in the series below, with further information to follow in due course.
- Formula 1 Partnership Event, 3 July: This event will explore Formula 1’s pathway to achieving net-zero emissions by 2030, focusing on how teams, logistics providers, and other key actors are implementing innovative, real-world solutions that reduce environmental impact and preserve the sport’s unique technological leadership. This event will be held in the lead-up to the British Grand Prix.
- WRC Partnership Event, 31 July: Held ahead of WRC Finland, this event will explore how motor sport can drive support for biodiversity and nature-positive practices. It will take place ahead of WRC Rally Finland.
- WEC Partnership Event, 5 November: Held alongside the FIA World Endurance Championship's season finale in Bahrain, this event will explore cutting-edge carbon-reducing innovations, including renewable fuels and tire compounds, and their real-world applications.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said: “As the global governing body for motorsport and the federation for mobility organisations, our work goes far beyond the track. This event series is an opportunity to bring some of the best thought leaders together from across our community and inspire discussion, collaboration and action.”
Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds said: “While we’re committed to advancing racing performance on track, bringing together leading experts and organisations off track is just as powerful as we look to innovate and accelerate technologies within the EV industry. Our Change. Accelerated. Live. series acts as unique platform where thought leaders from across motorsport, sustainability, business and education convene to discuss and tackle some of the biggest opportunities and challenges we currently face.”
