Following the approval of the FIA World Motor Sport Council, it has been confirmed that a new event – the Bahrain GT Festival – will take place on 30 November and 1 December 2018. Promoted by SRO Motorsports Group and held at Bahrain International Circuit, it will be headlined by the FIA GT Nations Cup, in which drivers from across the globe will compete for national glory.

The FIA GT Nations Cup will complement the FIA GT World Cup, which has taken place since 2015 on the iconic Macau street circuit. With the World Cup now reserved for Gold and Platinum drivers, and using a non-traditional GT format, the FIA wished to add an event to its calendar for Bronze and Silver drivers that corresponded more closely to the usual one-hour GT3 race programme.

Given the busy international racing calendar, a concept based around competing nations was deemed to be the most relevant.

A maximum of one car will be entered per country, with each including a Silver and a Bronze driver of the same nationality. Drivers will be selected by their National Sporting Authority (ASN), while cars may be entered by any team, regardless of nationality, with one team permitted to enter cars for multiple nations.

The liveries of the cars will fundamentally integrate the national colours of the competitors to further add to the spectacle and make the competitors more easily identifiable to fans at the circuit and watching on television.

Two 80-minute practice sessions will allow competitors to familiarise themselves with the 5.4km Bahrain International Circuit, followed by two 20-minute qualifying sessions that will set the grid for a pair of 60-minute qualifying races. The event will conclude with a 60-minute main race that will crown the title-winning drivers and their country.

While the FIA GT Nations Cup will provide the headline act, the Bahrain GT Festival will also feature significant support events.

The format for this exciting new FIA GT Nations Cup, with ASNs selecting two drivers to compete for their country, is very unusual in motor sport, and it will provide an engaging spectacle for the fans.”

Application criteria for FIA GT Nations Cup
Drivers intending to enter the FIA GT Nations Cup should submit, in writing, a letter to their national federation stating that they wish to participate. The letter must include the driver line-up, with both drivers holding the same nationality passport, and the car they will be driving. 

ASNs must submit their driver proposals to the FIA no later than 15 September 2018. The entry list will be confirmed by the FIA no later than 30 September 2018.

When the letter has been submitted a payment of €10,000 will be requested, with the national motorsport federations tasked with choosing the drivers who will go forward to the event. Once drivers have been selected, an additional €50,000 will be required to confirm entry. This will be returned once the car arrives in Bahrain. 

Freight costs for equipment and cars of all competing series will be organised, with costs covered by the promoter.

La Coupe des Nations FIA GT en tête d’affiche du nouveau Festival GT en 2018

SRO Motorsports Group assurera la promotion d’un week-end de courses fin novembre au Bahrain International Circuit.

Suite à l’approbation du Conseil Mondial du Sport Automobile de la FIA, il a été confirmé qu’un nouvel événement - le Bahrain GT Festival - se tiendra les 30 novembre et 1^er décembre 2018. Promu par SRO Motorsports Group et organisé sur le Bahrain International Circuit, ce Festival mettra en vedette la Coupe des Nations FIA GT dans laquelle s’affronteront pour la gloire nationale des pilotes du monde entier.

La Coupe des Nations FIA GT s’inscrit dans le prolongement de la Coupe du Monde FIA GT, disputée depuis 2015 sur l’emblématique circuit urbain de Macao. La Coupe du Monde étant désormais réservée aux pilotes Or et Platine, et dotée d’un format GT non traditionnel, la FIA souhaitait ajouter à son calendrier une épreuve pour les pilotes Bronze et Argent correspondant davantage au programme habituel d’une course GT3 d’une heure.

Compte tenu du calendrier international déjà bien chargé, un concept de course basé sur des nations concurrentes a été jugé le plus approprié.

Une voiture au maximum sera engagée par pays, avec à bord un pilote Argent et un pilote Bronze de même nationalité. Les pilotes seront sélectionnés par leur Autorité Sportive Nationale (ASN), tandis que les voitures pourront être engagées par n’importe quelle équipe, quelle que soit sa nationalité, une équipe étant autorisée à engager des voitures pour plusieurs nations.

Les livrées des voitures arboreront pour l’essentiel les couleurs nationales des concurrents, ce qui renforcera le spectacle et permettra aux fans d’identifier plus facilement les concurrents sur le circuit et à la télévision.

Les concurrents pourront se familiariser avec les 5,4 km du Bahrain International Circuit grâce à deux séances d’essais de 80 minutes, suivies de deux séances de qualification de 20 minutes qui détermineront la grille de départ de deux courses de qualification de 60 minutes. L’épreuve se terminera par une course principale, d’une durée de 60 minutes, qui viendra couronner les pilotes vainqueurs du titre ainsi que leur pays.

Si la Coupe des Nations FIA GT occupera le devant de la scène, le Bahrain GT Festival proposera également des événements annexes d’envergure.

Critères de candidature pour la Coupe des Nations FIA GT

Les pilotes ayant l’intention de s’engager dans la Coupe des Nations FIA GT doivent adresser une lettre à leur fédération nationale indiquant leur volonté de participer, la composition de l’équipage, les deux pilotes devant détenir un passeport de même nationalité, ainsi que la voiture qu’ils conduiront.

Les ASN doivent soumettre leurs propositions de pilotes à la FIA au plus tard le 15 septembre 2018. La liste des engagés sera confirmée par la FIA au plus tard le 30 septembre 2018.

Parallèlement à la lettre, un versement de 10 000 € sera requis, les fédérations nationales de sport automobile étant chargées de désigner les pilotes qui participeront à l’épreuve. Une fois les pilotes sélectionnés, un montant supplémentaire de 50 000 € sera demandé pour confirmer l’engagement. Celui-ci sera restitué à l’arrivée de la voiture à Bahreïn.

Le transport du matériel et des voitures sera organisé pour toutes les séries, les coûts étant couverts par le promoteur.
