FIA ETRC at the Nürburgring not feasible due to flood disaster

15.07.21

Heavy rains and once-in-a-generation floods have severely hit the Rhineland-Palatinate state where the Nürburgring is located.

The area and people have been badly affected, with emergency services working around the clock to save lives. A state of emergency has been declared for the region.

After consultation between ETRA, the local organiser ADAC Mittlerhein and the FIA it was decided, that it will not possible to hold the FIA European Truck Racing Championship event at the Nürburgring scheduled for this weekend, 17-18 July 2021,  due to the effects of heavy rain, floods and for safety reasons.

“We’ve seen an unprecedented situation develop in the Rhineland-Palatinate state and to see the effects of heavy rains and floods are truly heartbreaking,” said Rolf Werner, managing director at ETRA.

“Due to these unprecedented circumstances, it won’t be possible to hold the Truck Grand Prix on the weekend. Our thoughts are with those affected by the floods. The firefighters and rescue workers are doing an incredible job in what is an extremely difficult situation.”

“In the wake of a tragedy of such magnitude any sporting event is secondary. At this very moment, our thoughts are with those who have lost their family, friends or those whose households have been damaged," said Manuel Vidal, the President of the FIA Truck Racing Commission.

"At the same time, I’d like to express my support for the competitors, the organisers and everyone else involved in the Nürburgring event,”  he concluded.
