Latest education event focuses on rising stars in FIA F3 Championship

The FIA has held its latest driver training seminar, this time for the competitors in the 2019 FIA Formula 3 Championship, ahead of the opening round of the 2019 season.

Representatives of the FIA Safety Department visited the Circuit de Catalunya on Thursday 9 May to help the 30 drivers competing in this year’s new-look F3 championship by giving them important safety and medical information needed to succeed on their way up the single seater ladder.

The seminar opened with a presentation by FIA Safety Engineer Nuria Encinas Redondo focusing on safety equipment, which included a look at helmets, frontal head restraints and protective clothing. Further information was provided to the drivers on cockpit safety equipment and FIA Super Licence regulations.

FIA Medical Coordinator Prisca Mauriello provided a look at the FIA Anti-Doping rules, which included an introduction to the FIA Race True E-Learning Programme and a quiz to ensure the important points were understood.

The seminar concluded with F3 Race Director Bob Kettleboro discussing event regulations, including a look at race procedures, driver code of conduct, officials, flags, new regulations and race incidents.

Adam Baker, FIA Safety Director, said: “The FIA Driver Training programme is an important initiative designed to educate the next generation of drivers with important lessons regarding conduct, safety and human performance.

“Our team of experts were on hand to teach and answer questions for the FIA F3 drivers and demonstrate how these learnings can make an extremely positive contribution to their career progression.”
